US festival nominates Kiarostami doc

Documentary on Abbas Kiarostami’s life wins nominations at US film festival.

Iranian documentary ‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’ has received four nominations from the Golden Statuette International Film Festival (GSIFF) in the US.

The documentary has received the fest’s nominations for Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Directing awards.

A novel depiction on the life of the late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, the documentary was directed by Mahmoud-Reza Sani and produced by independent Iranian filmmaker Behrouz Neshan.

The story was set during a four year period when the late Kiarostami held cinematic workshops outside Iran.

Sani’s camera takes the viewer into the world of the late filmmaker highlighting conversations he held with his students, his overall approach to life and filmmaking, along with his personal experiences.

Organized by the Little Golden Man Group, GSIFF hosts filmmakers and TV stations from around the world.

The festival also takes a particular interest in hosting international short films along with children’s films and animations, particularly those of which were made by the youth.

GSIFF is set to be held August 24-25, 2019.
